Serious games, whether paper games or digital games, are best known for their unique design focus and anticipated outcomes such as awareness, education, or direct action. The development of serious games is just as unique, since the process involves subject matter experts and collaborators across fields. Students will learn about approaches and techniques to serious games development as well as focus on an area of their own interest resulting in a light prototype. With a combination of readings and hands-on work, this course leads to portfolio expansion. No prerequisites or prior development experience are required.
